David Hall has been a giant in our hobby/industry for as long as I have been involved. I’m proud to have him as a friend. His departure from PCGS does not mean he is exiting the numismatic world, so I don’t want this to sound like an obituary. He has meant so much to the numismatic community that his accomplishments to date bear acknowledgement. I wrote the comment below on another site, but I think it is worth repeating.

Our whole hobby/business owes David a huge debt of gratitude. His vision and persistence transformed coin collecting from a loosely knit collaborative of mom and pop businesses to a multi-billion dollar industry. Even his major competitors owe much of their success and wealth to his innovation. Without David Hall there would still be a Mark Salzberg and a John Albanese, but it’s doubtful there would be a NGC or a CAC (or a SIMCO). And Heritage would probably be a much smaller blip on the screen.

Thank you David, and best wishes moving forward.
