1987 Great Britain L2 Proof Gold Coin – $1,025

1987 Great Britain Gold 2 Pound, PCGS Secure Holder PR-68DCAM; Pop.6, only 18 total coins certified by PCGS in all grades. Only 14,000 minted.

I bought this coin in an NGC PF-70 holder, and I think that or Pr-69 would be the proper grade. The coin is flawless and heavily cameoed, as you can see in the photo.

The artistry of this gold coin is spectacular, featuring a youthful Queen Elizabeth on the obverse and St. George slaying the dragon on the reverse. See more about St. George below.

Diameter 29MM, roughly the same as a Franklin Half Dollar, but slightly thicker. 0.916 Fine Gold. Go here for size comparisons to U.S. Coins: http://www.simcocoins.com/world-coin-size-chart-educational-post/

St. George Image History:

The legend of St. George slaying the dragon has dozens of iterations, but is deeply ingrained in Catholic theology and is extensively referenced throughout British history. Here the legend is pictorially immortalized in a painting by Raphael 1504-1506, which currently hangs in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
