1825 Capped Bust Half Dollar with Incredible Eye Appeal – $4,450

1825 Bust half Dollar PCGS Secure Holder MS-62. This is a net grade due to light cabinet friction on a few high points. New to the market after being tucked away in an old time collection since the 1970’s.

One of the most beautiful Capped Bust Half Dollars in existence. It is clearly under graded due to the light cabinet friction on a few of the high points. This is not to be confused with wear, which would be seen all over if a worn AU. I don’t disagree with a slight net downgrade, but I think 62 is harsh. MS-63 to 64 is more appropriate.

The coin has MS-64 or better surfaces if viewed without the friction, and MS-67-68 eye appeal. You would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful and original eye appealing piece ay any price below $20,000, if not for the cabinet friction.

It is priced at $4450, which is between 63 and 64 sheet levels, but if you look at Hetitage auction results you can see what you get in 62, 63, and 64 at those generic sheet levels. Unfortunately the screwed up way we create sheet levels, based on the worst coins that sell at auction, or that trade hands between dealers sight unseen, means they don’t accurately portray the value of exceptional coins like this. I could see the potential for this coin to bring really crazy money in auction.

We do not send coins to CAC, we do not support CAC standards which we see as biased, arbitrary, and out of touch with the collector market; and we believe CAC is very harmful to the health of the market, so this coin has not been there.
